Some of you may have seen these on other blogs, but I wanted to show mine off. Most leave the wood natural but you know me and the black stuff for the living room...I had to paint it black. To me, the style, as I've done it is "elegant rustic".
I used 3 wooden floral rings from Michael's (18", 12" & 6"), a 10" mirror also from Michael's and 1 1/2 pkgs of cedar shims from Lowe's.
Using Liquid Nails I glued the shims into 3 layers using the wooden floral rings as a base. I also added some upholstery trim around the mirror and a fleur de lis.
The whole project cost around $20.00.
